Travel

This one might ruffle some feathers, but here it is—travel is overrated. In fact, there are plenty of aspects of travel that just suck. Hotels, Airbnbs, flights, food, and entertainment are becoming increasingly expensive. Packing and coordinating logistics is stressful and annoying. Ever been stuck in a never-ending TSA line at O'Hare International Airport at 4:00 AM on a Wednesday? Not exactly my idea of fun.

Don’t get me wrong—travel can be enriching, perspective-shifting, dare I say even magical. But let’s not ignore how overhyped it’s become. Every time I get back from a prolonged trip, the feeling of walking into my own home is undefeated. Keys jingling, door creaking open, shoes off, collapsing into the stillness of my own bed. Pure bliss.

Travel has ironically made me appreciate the so-called monotony of my everyday life. The routines, the stillness, the predictability—these have a kind of comfort that travel can’t replicate. I’ve never—not once—returned from a trip and felt disappointed to be home. Travel, you have your moments. But you’re overrated. 😉
